The Giles County Soil Conservation District (GCSCD) staff, Tori McWilliams (left) and Carla Potts (right) participated in the annual Ag-in-the-Classroom countywide event that was held on Wednesday, September 28^th at the Giles County Ag-Park.

Three hundred and thirty-five 4^th grade students, twenty-five teachers and approximately seventy-five volunteers enjoyed a full day of Ag Learning. Stations were set up to visit farmers that brought their beef and dairy cattle, horses, chickens, pigs, ducks, rabbits, and bees. Other stations were represented by the UT Extension Agency, Giles County High School Ag Department, Soil Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, Giles County Litter Program and Wolf Gap Education Outreach.

The GCSCD staff introduced 4^th graders to Ag Trivia. Categories of Trivia included “Water”, “Corn/Soybeans”, and “Soil”. Each class of students were divided into two teams. Each team took turns selecting a category and determining if the trivia statement was true or false. If answered correctly students receive points ranging from 100 to 300 points. Each student was awarded a “Water Cycle Bracelet Kit” for their participation in playing Ag Trivia.

Today’s youth are the Future Farmers of America and we can never start too early teaching them to take care of our natural resources. Trivia was a successful and fun method of learning some of those responsibilities.
